This is turning into the most envronmentally friendly topic ever...all three original ideas just keep getting recycled. No one has said tie it to the trolley, add a jockey wheel, put the sail up and sail it there along the M6 though and use that to tow the van instead. |

Now thats just being silly. A topper will hasn't got a big enough sail to tow a van on the uphill sections.

Well that depends on wind strength and direction, surely? And if it was one of them 'orrible old sherpa's, I'd back the Topper in a breeze...

I reckon you could fly at least a 29er or even an 800 kite of a topper mast head, that would help |

Yeah - until us boys from Radley happened to fnd you!!! I've never seen anything like it - a topper in a car, 4 boys pushed down under it - and the pico on the top about to break the rear axel... Got there in the end though (have you any pictures of that??) Max |

Sorry haven't posted thanks to everyone before, but been too busy trying some of the suggestions. Trouble was I couldn't get into the car after the Topper was taped to the side, except through a rear window or the hatch - over-zealous application of gaffer tape. So not very family-friendly. Having watched my roof box skim effortlessly down a frosty drive, I could see the immediate connection and so fitting a rig to it is a definite alternative so an idle summer moment. However I'm not sure there will be sufficent bouyancy. Whilst creatively interesting & highly entertaining to both participants and spectators, converting the Topper into some form of art piece, 3D jigsaw, helium-filled balloon or car-drawn 'wake-board' look high risk strategies when we would quite like a serviceable Topper at the end of the journey. Boring I know. So what are we actually going to do? Don't know yet, options... 1. Nothing - i.e. follow the advice to dump/sell it somewhere local to save dumping it in NW Scotland in a few years time. 2. Persuade some friends to assist when they head north this summer. 3. Hire a car/van on a 'one-way' drop. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Really brightened up my InBox. Andy |
