Er, hang on - which "14" are we talking about here: B or I? (I thought the former, but is this drifting toward the latter?)

RMW new price list for I14: If you look at the bottom in red it gives you complete boats in choice of Carbon Nomex or carbon foam sandwich its not cheap but not £25k either! you could also buy a Morrison 12 for 6-7k now and you would be right on the pace! The myth that they are super exspensive is just plain wrong, i think you will pay something similar to a new Merlin Rocket or 505.
And Ross isn't that Cheap cherub package not carbon but foam sandwich?? Price List

A thousand quid for a daggerboard!!! By the way, I14s hulls may be carbon/nomex construction, but they weigh 14kg (more than 2 stone) more than my NS14 hull which is exactly the same length and beam and is only GRP/foam. |

And have to deal with far far greater loads to be fair. One of the nice things about a wing mast/trapeze free boat is that the shroud tension only needs to be enough to keep the forestay straight. You've got none of the problems with having enough tension for the spreaders to work in the right way, and worse the trapeze unloading the shrouds. |

If you’re talking about the Daemon then AFAIK it's glass fiber foam sandwich. But the other Cherub sailor at my club who is getting a new boat built was going to have a little change left over from 10k. That was a full carbon Elway 5 from bloodaxe with bloodaxe foils, C-tech spars, Fyfe rig (both imported form NZ), Harken fittings and blocks etc. He is now going with a different builder and I think a different design so he is saving a fair few quid as well now. Granted this does not include a trailer, trolley or covers (I don't think so anyway). But still, a BARGIN in terms of the high quality of construction and general high tech/spec of the boat. For the price of an 800 you could have a carbon Cherub with a quality rig, t-foil, the lot. But if the development class thing isn't your game then what the 800 offers can't be beaten. |

Sorry you do get a rig for that price but yes that is ex vats so not cheap but a lot of work goes into them. But a 7 grand boat in the right hands will be competitive a Morrison 12 came 2nd at the nats last year. No one is or should be saying they are a cheap boat because they are not. but you don’t have to buy a new boat to be competitive. They are the most amazing boat to sail and my words to anyone here is try and 800 then when you can sail that try a 14 and you will be blown away by the performance.

Very true Jim. Although, interestingly, the twin trap RS800 hull weight is given as 62kg - considerably lighter than the hi-tech I14. FWIW, I think the 800 is an excellent boat and fair value. There are 5 or 6 at Chew now, all sailed by folk that sailed fairly traditional boats before. The 800 does not compete with the I14 and Cherub for sailors, but Fireball, L4000 and RS200 sailors. |
