Thanks for all the input. We have decided to run all the Lasers of the same start and score two sets of results: Lasers & Radials. We have also agreed to allow Lasers to change down to Radials but their score will still count in the Laser fleet. We hope this will encourage more youth and women to race the Radial. Rick |

at my club you get entered for the series once and then in each race you have your corredted time given on whatever you were sailing that day. however you get entered twice if some of the classes you sailed were in fast handicap (<1154) and some in slow (>1155). i think this encourages people to try different boats to see what they are like. i have been entered for one series in a feva, a topper, a laser 4.7 and a pico . it always seems to work out in the end, the guys who sail most regularly in the same class regardless of the wind strength always seem to win. which seems fair to me. so using this we would enter people who sailed full rigs and radials once for the series. people who sailed 4.7s and radials would be in a bit of a problem though because they would have 2 entries for the series and lots of DNCs. At are club they put them in a fleet together but saying that there are only about 2 radials. It annoys me so much (sorry im gona get loads of hate for this) how everybody sails lasers. At my club the only two boats worth sailing are Lasers or Laser 2s. The slow handicap class is taken up by young kids sailing mirros and toppers which is great and defiantly were i learnt how to race. The main handicap fleet is then crap, a Europe, N12, Enterprise and some custom build thing. The only reason people sail Laser 2s is beacuse the club rent them at fairly reasonble prices however the boats are crap. I don't get hte big thing about Lasers I've sailed one and I didn't like it. I know you can pick them up really cheeply and get racing but I persoanlly would save up and get somthing a little more intressting. Sorry all laser sailors out there.

i am sailing a laser at the moment for the fleet sizes, so i can get better at racing but as soon as i get bored of it (give it 2 seasons) im going to get something more interesting, theres just not enough bits of string on a laser.

If I still sailed dinghys alot I would. The problem with Saltash is I live there so its so convinent, I could drive for a good 30 mins and go to Torpoint or pay extortionate prices and probally not even get a space at one of the Plymouth clubs. Im kinda stuck for dinghy sailing! Other wise thats exactly what I would do. |
