I'd have said all the above boats need to be sat out...I'm about the same height and weight as you, and have sailed many singlehanders. All involve a lot of back movement, so if that is really a problem, then you may find that boats like Mirrors and Gulls fit the bill better. The big drawback is that they are slow, of course.

What about a boat with stabilisers - like a Dart 15. Will reduce the hiking and rplace it with sitting on the side.

p.s 53 is not old - I would say 80 is old for a dinghy sailor. There are 70 years sailing Contenders plus there is the odd pensioner sailing RS100s in Kent.

He's 57 now, and might have found a boat. How on earth did a 2006 thread make it to the top of the pile?

I'll add my 2 penneth though......the current scourge of the south coast is the lighter experienced sailor in a 4.7, unstoppable in any reasonable breeze.
