Although Ben will need a training partner if/when he is selected, which certainly helped Paul Goodison's career when he was training partner to Ben in the Laser.

Maybe Ed and others are paying the long game, after all, Ben will either change classes again or retire at some point, at which point someone will be ready to step into his shoes and keep GBR at the top of the Finn rankings

Whilst the other classes have strong candidates none of them dominate like Ben - 3 Gold Cups in a row ... very tough act to beat and he's young so a long time before he quits

his sailing must suffer a bit in relation to some of the others if they're training all the time in the boat and he isn't though

It is getting tougher in the Laser too it appears.

Goody is overnight leader today in China, but if Nick Thompson was not DSQ in a protest that was aledgedly initiated by Paul, then Thommo would be leading!

Well, I heard that Goody spotted an aledged incident (port & stbd) between the Greek (Evangelos) & Nick Thompson. After the race neither thought the incident meritted protest, but Goddy disagreed. He told them if they didn't he would. Goody then appeared as a witness to the hearing and Nick got lobbed.

On Goody's part a smart move - Nick would be 10 pts clear in gold medal spot with one 10 boat race to go if the original results had stood.

There is the beginning of the story on the Team GBR site and in the press release here http://www.rya.org.uk/NewsAndEvents/newsroom/news/preolympic s06dayone.htm

The question is, does Nick have the killer instinct that he needs to beat Goody in a street fight?
