So what's the current record for most UK National titles won by an individual in one season?
and is it going to be broken this year? What's that Fireball, Scorpion, Solo and Merlin...

I think checking Nick Craigs CV might give us a clue!

Tom is also reigning Streaker champion, although this years nationals are not until September.

Those are 4 top standard classes. I not sure Nick has ever topped that. Add to that he won Salcomb week too.

If he could win the RS200 nationals now then that would be impressive.

Even more so since he isn't entered and why would a North Sails employee (a.k.a jockey) sail a manufacturer's one design that is supplied with Hyde sails.
The Fireball Nationals weren't well attended, but winning the Scorps, Merlins and Solos as well as Salcombe Merlin week are amazing achievements, especially as Tom is too small for a Solo.

I used to admire the skill of these serial winners.
Now I think them flipping from class to class they are very sad pot hunters who spoil nationals etc for the rest of the participants. Another reason why attendance at nationals is not worth it for the average club member.

As a Solo sailor that did Carnac and watched Merlin Week from the race box I think Tom’s performance was impressive and I think those who sail these classes do so to sail against the very best, they are not there to win in an easy fleet. In the case of Merlin Week there was the chance to race against three Olympic medalists who Tom beat fair and square. There are few sports where the average Joe can compete against those at the top of their game. The Calvert’s were second by a point and I am sure that they would not object to being described as true Corinthian sailors in a relatively old boat sailed consistently well n challenging conditions

Purely for the sporting challenge… He had a Musto Skiff for a while and they have Hyde Sails.
Maybe so but still a quality fleet, have you ever won it? Edited by Old Timer - 10 Aug 22 at 8:34pm |
