I was round a friends house over the weekend, and in her trophy cabinet (yes cabinet, not shelf - damn she's good ) there was a trophy with her name on, both as a cadet, and later, as an adult. The gap was about 15 years. I'm curious to know the biggest gap anyone has experienced in winning the same trophy.

We have several club members sailing still in their 80's and have had some even to their 100's. Some still sail the same family boat as their parents.. I suspect some of them have won the same trophy over a period of 60 years or more and they have large gaps between While having their children or say serving in the military..

If we are talking about club trophies I can beat 15 years but while it seems impressive on the surface its probably fairly common for someone to settle at a club in their early 30s and still be there in their 60s and if they're good age is often not a barrier.
National level is a different story.

Slightly different tack, but curious.
I won a trophy at the Kestrel nationals in 2000, sometime later that year a new neighbour moved in next door. She saw the boat on the drive one day, and said that her recently deceased husband had sailed a kestrel in the '60s, and it turned out that he had won the same trophy 35 years earlier

I shall go for the Service mens and ex Service mens trophy this year during regatta week (they do allow women in, but that's the name of the trophy) it's probably about 20 years since I last won it and 15 since I competed.
They've closed the two nearest military bases, most of the ex national service men have now retired to watching rather than competing.. I'll have a lot better chance of winning..

As a snotty teenager I won a few races at Banbury SC in the early 70s in our tatty old Solo, no. 133...shared with my brother. We then upgraded to newer boats but 133 stayed in the family for a while until we left home. Tracked her down around 10 years ago and bought her back - a lick of paint and she's back to winning ways in the North East:

My dad won the XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week in 1956, then won it again a few times in the '90s and 2000's. In 2006 he did it with the same crew that he did in 1956!
