Looks like Alex T has got the hammer down - will this be the race that it all goes right for him ?

Sam Davies doing brilliantly too (without trying to sound like a sexist) - fantastic so far

The black boat certainly seems to have the pace in breeze, and / or when the angle is at about 100 deg apparent or more. Not so dominant in the light, and right now the angle doesn’t seem to suit. Hull / foil design? Sail wardrobe? I have no clue.

Two and three have been going faster much of the day but not now.  However as Alex heads a little more west than the chasers then distance to finish is misleading.  He is hoping to get a lift and then stronger winds round the high pressure.  Fingers crossed.

Pip Hare to win! Be great if Alex wins ( in the fastest boat ever ) but I'm rooting for Pip to finish. In today's vid she's screaming along at 20+knts looking like she's sailing a mirror round a sunny lake... Meanwhile Alex looks like he's piloting desiato hotblack's spaceship.

Has Alex got a problem - he's lost a huge amount to the guys who've passed him ?

Statement from the team: "TEAM STATEMENT
At approximately 19:00 UTC on Saturday 21st November, Alex notified the team on shore of a possible structural issue onboard the HUGO BOSS boat.
At the time, Alex was located approximately 800 miles east of Rio de Janeiro in the South Atlantic ocean, and was 13 days into the Vendée Globe round-the-world yacht race.
Alex and the team, together with our appointed naval architects and structural engineers, are now working together to assess the extent of the structural issue and to determine a repair programme and timeline.
Alex is safe and well onboard, and in regular dialogue with the team. The Vendée Globe race organisation has been notified and is being kept well informed.
We kindly ask that members of the public refrain from attempting to contact the team at this time. A further update will be released on Sunday 22nd November."

Poor Alex. A problem familiar to all us dinghy sailors; make your boat as light and fast as possible.... and risk it falling to bits around you! Hopefully he can fix it, or it might be like the last one where he was super fast on one tack and struggled on the other.
