Steering seemed heavy too, hopefully tomorrow will be a closer race.
Neither boat looked steady, American magic reached over 50 knots though. |

Definitely seems to be using a lot of effort on the wheel - not relaxed at all. It also seems that crossing the boat is difficult. Whether that's due to platform instability, or the shape / texture of the aft deck I don't know. Patriot just wasn't in it today. Wrong rig? Brave pills missed? No idea, but the crash down events aren't helping. Team USA have said that they're struggling with rudder control in / after the bear away, but 'nothing has changed'. Well something must have done, and it is happening when the port foil is in the water. Mis-alignment in the repair?

I accidentally found a better way to watch via YouTube that gives a much better impression of 'being there', while still retaining the race overview. Open a window to either the commentary feed or the virtual feed, and turn the sound off. That gets rid of the commentary: Nathan Outteridge is always worth a listen, but I can live without the others. Open a window to the stern camera of your team of choice; keep the sound on; headphones are even better.
If you're watching live you don't have to synchronise the feeds; if you're watching on replay, synch them using the start sequence, or during the race by the tacks. |

Well, not as exciting as the round robin, Patriot not really on the pace then the boat broke...
Not holding my breath for a UK win if Luna Rossa have gained 10% since last weekend but who knows...

The 10% was from the weekend before from what I gathered.
After Ineos went 4-0 LR decided to bring forward some upgrades for the 2nd weekend of round robins, hence them being much more competitive. Thankfully It looked as if Ineos were still quicker, even with problems. But only marginally. The other thing going for Ineos is having Ainslie and Giles at the back of the boat. My money would be on a 7-3 win by Ineos. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/americas-cup-2021-luna-rossas-warning-to-ineos-team-uk-ahead-of-crunch-prada-cup-races/3WD3VABSGPJP7GNKIF33LPDJD4/

That's not how it sounded when the commentators on the semi final mentioned it today but maybe...

The thing is everyone is constantly developing and Ineos not having to race has more time to concentrate on development than Luna Rosa.
I had thought that being denied race practice a disadvantage. I have been told otherwise by both a friend in elite sport and the commentators last weekend said that Team NZ are relishing being able concentrate on development without the distraction of having to go racing. edit typo.

Fairly confident that claims of a 10% increase in Prada speed are nonsense - that would 2.5 - 3 minutes on atypical AC race ?
Its nice to see how gen gentlemanly everyone is at present - not sure that this will continue when things get tight ? Still - Terry H and Dean B were very gracious. Dean B got rinsed at most starts - time for him to step aside ? It must be a shame for the Auklanders and anyone who has managed to travel there (and those of us watching on TV) to see so little racing - with only 3 challengers its a fraction of what it has been in the past. Hopefully after this event the powers that be will realise that the AC needs to be more attainalble do we end up with 8 or 10 challengers ? |
