Back in the day of 9 or 10 popular national coverage classes and Nationals of 100+, the best sailors won races, and the rest of us didn't.
Whilst I can see the advantage of having a myriad of classes and the option of being able to blame your position on incorrect boat purchase choice ( and the dreaded PY commitee), I own up to wishing the " old fashioned" option was still available. Although I suppose by sailing a wooden Osprey and Solo- the choice is still there. Edited by ian.r.mcdonald - 01 Oct 20 at 1:30pm |

Well no, but to put some perspective it would be quicker for me to get to Antwerp. |

Ian, its possible that it is me having a brain haemorrhage, but how does this have anything to do with the Aero 9 or other things raised in this post? Or you just fancied flying the flag for a return to the "good old days?" I bet that there are more Aero's sailed in the UK than any other class......so assume you are going to sell or burn your wooden things and buy an Aero so you can join in - right?

Maybe - but you will not have to self isolate after a H2 demo for two weeks!

I think Laser/ILCA sailors would disagree with you there..... certainly the RYA PY returns stats would agree with over 28,000 races just for the Std rig and near 40,000 for all 3 rigs combined. The Aero by comparison makes around 8,500 for all 3 rigs. That is before you consider that many clubs have Laser fleets which wont be included in the PY return stats.

Laser 1, Radial and 4.7 were 1st, 3rd & 20th in order of races returned, Aero 7, 9 & 5 were 8th, 15th and 40th respectively...

Paul - maybe I should have been clearer, what I meant was not only the total number of races recorded by the RYA (which IME records number of races in a handicap setting rather than in a fleet as many clubs do not submit fleet data to RYA) but the number of races per boat sold. Aeros are much more actively raced than Lasers based on the numbers I see serving as plant pots.

H2 and D0 would score high there. Any new racing class will.
So do classes where 20 were built in the 1950s and they are all still sailing in one harbour. |

Sorry, I must have misread the other comments about Blazes etc etc and assumed the conversation had moved on to other boats. I will stick with my " good old days " boats and watch from a distance |
