I have been given a suit of Enterprise sails, they were new in 1992 and measured by J C Lees on the 5th June 1992, then stored in the loft till now, will they be any good? They certainly feel like new sails.

Assuming they’re constructed from man-made materials, and kept in the dark they should be ok from a degradation perspective, I would think. How different the cut is from current thinking / fashion is a different matter. I don’t know how Ent mast bend is controlled, being deck stepped, with spreaders but w/o lowers...

Probably closer to a new set than a 1960 set would have been in 1990!
Sail with them, see how they feel, at club level I'm sure they will be great, maybe winning the Nationals might be an ask. |

Do check the luff and foot bolt ropes! These tend to shrink over time. That will mean the main won't go up to the top black band - it may cause severe wrinkling of the luff.
Might be worth checking when the Enterprise class adopted spreaders - the original boats didn't have them - but did have wooden masts... Colin |

a set of Enterprise sails from 1992 unless specifically cut for an out of date rig would likely be cut for a Proctor D+ or the equivalent Superspars mast , with spreaders and working with significant rig tension |

One thing, it's not 'Lens footed'.

It might want new bolt ropes but will otherwise be fine, with the caveat that its designed for a rig that was modern at the time. Not much has changed since.
I have 2006 Solo sail in a similar state and its great.

I left the class in 2003 having sailed Ents from 1979 onwards.
I don't think sail shapes had moved significantly during the last 10 or so years I was in the class. By 92 the class was pretty much using either the Selden D+ or the sleeved Superspar M2 as the masts of choice, so not much will have changed in the intervening period. Interesting though that it didn't have a lens foot. It should have done. Who made the sails?

They'll be absolutely fine.
They used to leave a tail on the bolt rope so it might not need to be replaced, it might just pull down a bit
