Hi everybody,
I'd love to go sailing round Caribbean islands with a group of friends in March. Will appreciate any recommendations on the route! I've got some experience, but not plenty, and would love to practice in a beautiful place like that. Is that a good idea? |

Sounds marvellous hope you have a great time .
Not sure how much cruising experience is on the forum at the moment . Most of us spend our time racing round 100 acre puddles

I once took a bare boat out of St Marten with some pals, across to St Barts overnight, then down to St Kitts, Nevis, overnight again, then to Antigua where we arrived a week to early for Antigua week, must have been late March early April 99/2000. Fabulous three or four days in and out of English harbour teaching myself to kite surf somewhere up the coast a bit. Then the last day we gunned it from Antigua back to St Barts in a day, (we stuck pretty much to daytime sailing, one of the dicks we were with dec ided in his captaincy on the first night, to disconnect the Battery (for overnight safety
![]() But it was a fun trip can thoroughly reccommend a blue water cruise down there, we even got to spot a bloody Whale just off Redonda, fabulous trip marred by one t**ser, but there's always one. Edited by iGRF - 20 Feb 20 at 8:35pm |

Agree with GRF that English Harbour Antigua needs to be in there somewhere.

I'll second that. A lot depends on your view of life. For example we loved Dominica but some friends hated it - they preferred things nice and sanitised. If you like nice restaurants and waterside bars, stick to the French islands - Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Martin and travel by air-conditioned taxi. If you want to see real island life, go for the English islands - St Lucia, Dominica, Antigua and travel by rusty minibus ('dollar buses'). Here are a few of our favourite spots: /Grenadines: Tobago Cays, Bequia /St Lucia: Marigot Bay /Martinique: Pointe du Bout, St Pierre /Guadeloupe: Isles des Saines /Montserrat: Volcano taxi tour /St Barts: Anse des Colombier /St Martin: Cole Bay & Lagoon /Barbuda: 7-mile beach

P.S. Skip Barbados - unless you fancy 12 hours bashing to windward in big waves!

My friends went sailing to the Bahamas one year ago and they loved it. You have a lot of islands to choose from. They said it was pure paradise and you get to see a lot by sailing in this areas.

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.

Sailing in the Caribbean is one of my dreams. I love the warm, crystal clear water, the palm trees on the beaches, the white sand... I drink a coconut every day. :-) I can also highly recommend Puerto Rico. I didn't go there for sailing, but we did a little round trip there. The country is breathtakingly beautiful, the people are super friendly and the food was amazing as well…I can totally recommend it!! Breeze_lover, did you go there at the end? Or were your travel plans destroyed by Covid??
