Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if a Blue Peter Dinghy has ever had a PY handicap?

Many Thanks
Mark

Not according to the 1997 Dinghy and Dayboat Directory!

It's about the same size and sail area as an Optimist but the Oppi is much better developed so I'd expect the Oppi to be a fair bit quicker.

I would have thought Blue Peter was faster ? Much better hull shape. Was designed for the programme I believe.

You may be right but the Oppi is so highly developed that I think that might offset the 'tea chest' hull designs limitations. Probably safest to start with a number about the same as an Oppi and revise after a few races?

I dug up a load of stuff in Ian Proctor's files when doing his centenary last year and never saw any mention of a PY being assigned to it. If it isn't figuring in my records and if Jim Champ hasn't got it either, then my guess is that the answer is that there never was one!

Maybe we should apply the Fuller Formula?
