Interested to follow this years Endeavour "Champion of Champions" event this weekend with light winds on Saturday and breezy on Sunday it was something for everyone. Always interesting to see how the best helms from each fleet end up overall in the same boat, on the same course in the same conditions and wish that those that come up with Handicaps at RYA and Great Lakes would take it into account when revising the PYs each year. Its one of the few ways that fleets can be calibrated.
Great to see our Jack Holden come home 9th overall - he finished 2nd at our H2 nationals this summer but our National Champion is a pilot and could not get the time off. Nice to be able to rank how we are as a fleet against the best of the Aero, Blaze, K1 etc!

Experience in the boat (RS200) is always going to be an advantage though, and any regular pairing coming from an assy double hander will have a bit of a head start over two singlehanded helms sharing the boat. I don't suppose the differences add up to much though and it's great to see the best UK sailors battling it out.

Sure Sam - I was looking at "similar" boats such as Aero, Blaze, K1, Streaker, Supernova etc which are arguably all new to crewed boats with a spinnaker! Its an interesting idea that this is the only objective way to take a snap shot of the relative competitiveness of various fleets around the UK. I am not sure if that is right or wrong - just a thought!

I've always felt it was fairer when sailed in Enterprises, removing the advantage held by those used to sailing with kites

Although its interesting that Laser, Streaker, H2 and K1 all made it into the top 10 whereas the RS800 (14th), 2000 (19th) and 29er (23rd) all of which should be used to sailing with a Asymmetric Kite and a Crew did not do so well as compared to their singlehander competition!
I mean - I thought the RS800 was a really competitive class that should be used to sailing a modern skiff type boat!

lucky enough to be on the water this weekend filming, has to be said if you can, it is absolutley worth getting in a specator boat for this event!
the sailing from everyone was impressive, but the youth cntingent did themselves proud and really showed cool heads, grit and determination throughout the weekend, especially when it got windy, case in point is the two optimist sailors who being the smallest and well under weight for a 200 beasted the boat around and hiked harder than anyone else on the course and always beaming smiles too. day 1 day 2 Edited by Oli - 14 Oct 19 at 11:24am |

It's very tidal, is there anyone in the RS800 fleet competent in tide? |

Jack has done a tonne of RS200 sailing - been top 5 at the nationals before, so in good stead for the Endeavor. I think it is a shame its in the 200. Would be better in something which took a wider range of weight. I did it a couple of times in the Xenon, which was a great leveler as no-one sailed them and they could take a full range. Ben won both years I did it, but Nick Craig was a lot more competitive. The 200 holds him back a bit being a 90kg(ish) helm.
