Topic: Laser 3000 trailer suspension units Posted: 17 Aug 19 at 2:39pm |
I'm struggling to find suspension units for an old Laser (Rapide I think) road base. The fixings are at 60mm centres is the problem. I'm trying to avoid having to have new plates welded on 'cos the galvanising on the road base is in good order (plus the extra expense and time).
Any suggestions?

Yes, though of that and it may be the only way. There is enough room on the back plate but I'm concerned about having new holes too close to the original ones causing weakness.

You probably can't get the holes welded up because of heat on the rubber, but it might be worth contacting indespension direct. If they still manufacture in the UK you could maybe get undrilled units.

Yes, you're right and it would bugger the galvanising too. I'll do some measuring and see how close they get, the only ones that'll be a problem will be the outer ones which are least stressed so a big, thick washer will probably do the business.
Will draw it out full scale and see how it looks. Edited by Sam.Spoons - 17 Aug 19 at 5:48pm |

You can just replace the rubber on some of the units, if it's the rubber that's perished.

No it's the steel that's rusted away. Thankfully it disintegrated between the boat park and the beach, not on the road.

Have you contacted Rapide ? They may be able to help.
We have dozens of abandoned road trailers, they are piled one on top of the other, nothing at your club ?

perhaps Bosun and his team should remove suspension units and hitch couplings, only need to dispose of bulky framework, will suggest this at my club, I know they strip boats.
