I don't know of a single racing class where competition between suppliers results in cheaper prices. Given the choice of cheaper slower sails or faster more expensive sails things only go one way.
There is competition from the “knock off” suppliers and they are selling sails at half the price of the buttoned sails.  The price difference has no relationship to the royalties paid.

More telling that LP sell their own knock off for training at £180 vs £540. The royalty is around £20/sail I seem to recall from the last legal battle where this was mentioned.

The ILCA supporters on here have gone very quiet.

Please explain what will happen if ILCA do not get permission to change the name of the boat but refuse to re-instate LP as a builder.

Simple. There won't be a Laser builder in Europe and the Americas.

Yes, actually it is that simple. PSA/PSJ will have to supply the whole world, which will involve long delays and/or a brave investment to increase productivity.

Meanwhile LP will continue to sell Lasers and presumably set up a rival class association.

They can't unless they come to an agreement with the holding company (also owned by Rastegar) that owns the TM rights for 'Laser'. This was something that was moved from LP to Velum (I think) during the first legal round of crossfire, it may have changed since then though.

Who can't do what Jeffers?

LP can, and are, continuing to sell Lasers.

LP admit that PSA can sell to any individual anywhere in the world. From the LP document to WS relating to Anti-Trust Issues:
Any individual Laser sailor from any location can directly purchase a Laser boat from any one of the three Laser sailboat suppliers for their own personal use (LP, PSJ or PSA).
So any keen ILCA fan can still import a PSA boat for personal use. Indeed, they will have to until new European builders are appointed even if the necessary votes and approvals are eventually passed. But why would you when you can buy a Laser quicker, easier and probably cheaper from LP - the only concession you have to make is to join a different class association.
So I maintain that sacking LP before getting a name change approved was hasty and not in the best interests of the majority of ILCA members.

ILCA and LP probably deserve each other. There are plenty of ways of avoiding dealing with LP (or ILCA) if you don't like them (buy an OK/Aero!).
