Looks like ILCA is lining things up properly.
http://www.laserinternational.org/blog/2019/05/04/ilca-statement-clarifying-approval-procedures/ It is hard to imagine that members wouldn't line up in droves to support a rule change that finally breaks up the monopoly supply. Competitive pricing would be really nice to see after so many years. |

Oh, you're going for comedy again! Of course, it must be a joke because Contender sailors would be very happy to share sailing with others, whether they sail an RS600, a Farr 3.7, Solo or any other boat. The Contender sailors just do not want to lose the racing they love on their boats. Luckily, they have class associations, because without the associations you abuse so much, the sport would not survive. Edited by CT249 - 06 May 19 at 12:43am |

Oh come on, that not what the content is about at all. It is an admission that the name change needs membership approval and an apology for implying WS had already given their approval.

I don't know of a single racing class where competition between suppliers results in cheaper prices. Given the choice of cheaper slower sails or faster more expensive sails things only go one way. |

Presumably if the tolerances are tight enough you could prevent competition on speed/quality, though doubtless some will spin BS about some minor detail not controlled by the template. But if price is the only discriminator it will eventually end up with a single source Far East sweat shop supplying the sails. Not a great look for the class or WS.
