Come on, it's coming into that time of year again and we haven't had a PY thread for a while, how about a Bandit nomination thread just so we can get some heat back into discussion round here, it's been a bit boring of late Olympic speculation aside, what's really getting your goat Bandit wise?
Me it's bloody Lasers, and shortly it'll be Miracles, Mirrors with kids in them crewed by experts. What's your pet hate right now? |

Laser 2000's? Do they have different rig grades then? I doubt the one that races at our club has even finished Sunday's race yet. |

2000's are awful in light air, if the chap at your club is winning all the time then I expect its because he's very good
But yes in anything over a force 4 if there is a 2000 on the course. You've lost For me its the Blaze, the minute they're sitting on the rack its game over unless the course suits you massively. The fact that the Blaze can sail faster on a tight reach than a boat with a PY 80 lower than it is a joke

I've never understood how the Blaze held on when the Phantom got hammered, they're both very close.

Because the wind is predominantly light?? Phantom is much faster in the light but the blaze needs a little wind to get going. Same with the contender

Different Story on the Sea I guess where unless it's a drifter, both boats seem quite evenly matched. I wish they weighted sea and inland events evenly. |

Its not a different story on the sea
In light winds a Phantom is way faster in all directions - sea or inland. In breeze it will struggle to keep a Blaze behind. Phantom also much faster than a Contender in the light but way way slower in breeze - again - sea or inland (although waves will amplify this as the Contender is great in them) |

That is simply a matter of leverage, Blaze has the racks, Contender has the trap, both allow the helm much more leverage than a phantom. Consequently they have a greater power to weight ratio once powered up. Then there's the flat run aft which is sticky in the light but allows them to plane sooner and, ultimately, at a higher top speed.
