Hi,
I have been sailing a topper for a while and I am thinking on purchasing a new boat. I am looking for something that can be sailed by just me or with one other person. I was looking at a feva, as I have sailed them both alone and with a friend, and I like having the options of having 3 sails. Are there any other options, possibly with a trapeze? (I weigh about 15 stone) Thanks

You'd find the Feva tiny.
Take a look at the Laser II. Only available secondhand, now. |

How hard is it to sail single handed? I have seen people do it in videos.

Just pick you conditions. Start with benign winds with the jib rolled and work up from there. Given a bit of time, you can sail from the trapeze with main and jib set. If you find a Laser Fun New Wave, with an asymmetric spinnaker, that is reasonably easy too, with the right weather and a bit of space. The original symmetric spinnaker is rather harder by your self.
Laser 3000, same hull but different deck layout and rig, which includes an asymmetric spinnaker would also be possible. If you want something with more legroom, the 2000 comes with an after fit trapeze kit. It's a bulkier boat, though. |

Can it be sailed single handed without a trapeze using only the mainsail?

Lazer 3k can be sailed solo and at 15 stone would not be too much of a challenge. Like all 2/3 sail boats it will be horribly unbalanced without the jib but pulling the daggerboard will help a bit (centreboards are great here as, at half board, the CLR moves aft as well as up) so better sailed with the jib up. It's a nice boat though and feels fast on a windy three sail reach.

Sailed a Topper Topaz Uno for ages great boat and nearly ordered a new one that is until I tried a Hartley 12.2 bigger than the Topaz and much more stable, certified for up to three but no problem single or double handed https://www.facebook.com/groups/520096068366717/

L2/L3000 can both be sailed without the jib as Sam says above. Don't know about the L3000 but the L2 turtles really easily so tie a 4L drinks container to the top of the main. L2s are really cramped. Ours does better for me if I take the main directly from the boom.
