Simplest solution is flywheel stored energy and wind up spring drive, flywheel drive at first glance looks good, gyro energy needs sorting.
Flow batteries look to be the future, only requiring water and rust. |

My neighbours were a very traditional farming family. They lived a very long and happy life within a 20 mile radius of home. I remember a conversation with the head of the house when he told me that "I am not from round here", he was born 5 miles up the lane!
We need to combine new tech transport with some major changes to where we live our lives |

Well, suspect the very polluting cruise ships will be seeing a reduction in custom, anyway!
Lots of unemployed cabaret artists looking for jobs in McDonalds though! UK holidays will be popular until we get a crappy summer, then airlines will see a boost again. |

Will be surprised if mass travel resumes until steps are put in place to prevent a recurrence, we can't have this happen again, will be even more surprised if there is any help for airlines and cruise lines.

Air ticket prices will go up, so much refunds and what competition there was for runway will be taken out of the market.
My mates just been made redundant from Gatwick... no furlonging, straight up, we can't afford the payroll. |

I've just cancelled a sailing holiday that I'd booked for later this year. I can't see all of the travel companies or airlines surviving so things are going to be turning complicated to say the least.
Even if it's sorted, there'll likely be so many restrictions that impact on how holidays are run that it'll just feel less like a break and more like a regimented event. With other countries behind the curve, you just know that strict travel restrictions will be in place as a minimum so even if the UK is clear, I don't think we'll be going anywhere further than the UK before the end of this year. |

Money not being spent on foreign holidays, at the least money will be in the form of savings, which banks will invest, money will also be spent on UK recreation. I believe people are going to want to do something different, RYA needs to think about this, perhaps national advertising.

After a lifetime of flying all over the world for work, I was already enjoying not having to sit in airports.
The Peak District is a lot like Tuscany, just without all the grief of travel. Let's get all sailing clubs digging out that unused visitor championship cup and restart the local series that used to get clubs working together Edited by ian.r.mcdonald - 28 Mar 20 at 1:44pm |
