Velocitek Shift offers a replacement battery; has higher initial price, but will level off if/when you replace the battery. Has bigger numbers, compass displays during countdown and smarter compass.

Hi, I have a few ML2430-HJ1 batteries.
I had to buy a minimum quantity from mercateo when I needed to replace the batteries in my daughters Tacktick. The replacement was simple and compass started working as soon as I soldered this in. Including postage I will sell for £9 each. |

The new prism is amazingly good.
This tack-tick I promised to fix for a mate and have been looking for a battery since I started this thread..

Surely the battery replacement market is pretty slim anyway? My tacktick is pretty old and has not needed a battery. I don't race at night and it spends a lot of time on a window cill FWIW. It's about time there was a much cheaper product though! |

Is it better to leave an unused tactic in the light or dark?
In the winter mine is in its pouch. Is that bad for the battery?

TackTick say that the compass must be charged in bright sunlight, the pouch turns the unit off but I probably wouldn't leave it for several months without topping it up (and WTF one gets 'bright sunlight' from in a UK winter I'm bu99ered if I know).
I would love a Tacktick but just can't bring myself to spend a couple of hundred quid on such a badly designed device....... I may end up buying a Velocitec Shift eventually, expensive, even by TackTick standards, but they seem to have got the basics right.....

I’ll dig it out and put it in the conservatory.
