I am currently developing my open sailing canoe and would like to get some good sailing footage to improve my sailing technique, I paddle steer. Last year I tried an extension which put the camera about a meter behind and half a meter above the stern but I could not see my steering well enough. I have long thought that towing the camera a distance behind the boat would give some great footage. I would also like to do the same to self coach my dinghy training.
I have searched and can't find anyone having done this. To the question, what is the best solution
This is the angle I get |

I have seen one mounted on a body board, must have been weighted, wasn't bouncing about.

Thanks I like that, I have made a very rough mini IACC boat out of a bit of 2 x 3 with a 3 foot 'mast' it is bit cumbersome but floats the right way up. If that fails I will give the body board a go, one somewhere in the loft of the boat shed

Buy a drone that follows you at a set distance and height.

How about extending off the back end of the boom. The camera should get all the important bits in.
Top of mast looking down is a good angle too. |

This was a go-pro on a roughly 2M pole (top half of a broken carbon windsurfer mast) attached to the rudder space frame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzkCCrdzKmw
