iGRF,
just realised molds for MK2 Sprint are supposed to be in the hands of one of our members, so perhaps you could build a super light boat.

Original boats were built using chopped strand mat, how much lighter would the boat be using woven strand mat ?

Depends vastly on how much panel stiffness, and robustness you want. You could probs build a hull from sprayed nomex prepreg if you could handle it delicately enough. Its a small boat and its largely a function of square meterage. ICs nowadays get down to 50kgs all up ready to sail and are much bigger, often with med tech construction, even ply

It would be fun to resurrect the Minisail class with modern materials, and a decent Byte C2 style rig... But you know what they say about making a small fortune from designing a new product...

Start with a large fortune...

I was thinking along the lines of self building from existing molds rather than setting up a business building boats.

Do we really want that style of rig? The Byte handicap is now slower than it was with the old rig! I'm still unconvinced by hard, huge leech sails for slow boats. They may well have a higher top speed, but on a small, shifty puddle, readability and light wind bagginess seem to be quicker.
