Well there is no cleat to flick out but if you pull to hard the sheet will come through the loop and tangle...need your cork lifejacket then!

Not only that, but release using three strand laid manila? What was the top of the heap for rope, anyway? Flax? Manila? Hemp? Sisal? Cotton? Knowing canoes, probably silk?
