Which is why it should be perceived as fair not foul and clearly disparate boats be 'made' to be so regardless of what the 'data' says.
Running the Halo and the Zero through my number cruncher (Peakys tweaked a bit to consider rig anomalies) the Halo is 1006, then the Zero should be 1052. with the Blaze Fire at 1050 ad the normal Blaze 1019. The Aeros pop out at 1033 for the 9 and 1089 for the 7. Whatever, you could go round and round forever, but at leasts a maths formula makes them all equally wrong rather than the fear or favour that data appears to dish out, so I'm off out to celebrate New year and wish all of you a good one and happy sailing for next, at the end of the day it doesn't matter really as long as we enjoy ourselves on the water and can have a good excuse to support our ineptitude... Happy New Year one and all. |

1035 seems quite high to me, it looks like a high tech modern boat with a very nice looking rig. Only valid comparison I can come up with is the Roosta 8and-a-bit, which is a hull designed about the same time as a Vauxhall Viva, with a bargain basement 'gorilla block' rig. Same LOA and beam, PY about 1050? 40 odd years of design progress and it's only 1.45% quicker? Just get and and enjoy the races, the fleet will do itself more good looking enthusiastic than worrying about PY. |

We don't see enough Blazes, Halos and such to have an opinion on their numbers, so I will just agree with the sentiment, particulary Happy New Year and Good Sailing. |

Equally wrong? I don't think so. The boats don't all fit the numbers in the same way. All wrong, yes. But that is different.

Rupert, Grumpf and all you other happy campers.
Well, a really Happy New Year to you all and fair winds and kindly tides (for them wot sail on the salty stuff). Anyway, I'm out of here for now, I have an article to write on Monitor 33 - one of the very few remaining WW1 warships, which means I get to put on a hard hat and head off to Portsmouth Dockyard (It is a bit like being on here but with real naval guns!) - but that is the beauty of the job, you never know what is coming next. Once M33 is sunk and the Merlin Book is 'put to bed' (with the publishers) I will get back to Part III - that is unless the story of the birth of the 505 gets in the way. What a tale that is turning out to be. Sadly, you will have to wait until the summer of 2017 to find out who did what and when on that story. No matter, in a world of uncertainties, we can be certain that come 2015 iGRF will still think we're all a bunch of crooked reprobates but then that is just what we would want to be. Other 2015 predictions? Well, there is at least one more potential 'new' boat lurking out there, will it reach the market and if so, will it too come in a blaze of glory (no hints there) with equal measures of acrimony about the potential yardstick. But other than that (unless you want the heads up on another brewing scandal) it is just a case of saying "thank you and goodnight" Dougal - so far south on the Isle of Wight I'm paying my Council Tax in Cherbourg! |

That seems very suspect to me. Especially since the 9 is meant for heavier sailors.
