From another discussion thread:
Is this any madder than the chap who designed the tiny Illusion one-man keelboats to fit the 12m rule? I really love these sort of ideas. It reminds me of the 6ft skiff designs this forum saw. We've seen a few 'Frankenboats' mentioned too, but are there any more dreams that you fear we'll never see taking shape in the garage? Let's hear them all! I find my mind often wandering, considering how to combine the bits of boat I own in a new way. What would a Merlin Rocket mainsail/mast look like, with a trapeze, on that old Cadet hull my daughter is using as a sandpit? Hmmmm... |

I remember a cadet week at Thorpe Bay 45 years ago when anything was allowed rig wise in one race. Cadet with a masthead rigged Hornet genoa looked good - overlap was entirely appropriate for a 70s big boat too.

Here's someone's dream that made it to reality:
www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/classifieds/view.asp?id=4648 Take a 12ft GRP hull and turn it into a cutter rigged yawl (4 sails). More sheets than a Salcombe Yawl and it's much smaller! |

We had a silly conversation once about putting dual sliding seats on an FD.

Thats less silly than the person who originally put one on a Minisail, surely?

You'd have preferred a trapeze, Rupert? But with that narrow beam you need something that will help balance sufficient sail area to master the large scow wetted area, and the stability of a scow makes it possible. Wings are the obvious answer, esp. lightweight carbon ones nowadays; surprised you don't see more Minisails thus-equipped. I have a cunning idea for them should you ever get the urge. |

I like mine narrow. The hull shape makes it easier than a pointy bow would be for the width.

Shivers at the thought of scows and wings which are acting as a reminder about the V-Dub!

That, for me, is the great tragedy of the Grumphenboat. With a more enlightened approach it could have been a winner.
