holiday sailing insurance

   Hi folks

I have just booked a holiday with ocean elements for 1 week sailing dinghies cats etc.

they advise you to get insurance to cover damage,  breakage, liability if you injure someone, 

Has anybody  got any ideas for who to use for this I'm guessing that standard policies exclude this sort of activity stuff.

	I would have thought they would insure the boats for damage, breakage etc and would also have some form of third party liability. Not heard of this before. When I have been on holiday I have had the option of insuring the 2000 Euro excess as you would do with car insurance but nothing else. Then I have just made sure my travel insurance covers the activities I am doing. I have seen exclusions for when sailing is the main reason for the holiday or if you are racing offshore.

	Strange they should suggest something and then not give you a recommendation of where to get it! I would be asking them what they don't have covered by their own insurance that they expect you as a customer to cover for yourself.

	You should only need personal injury (or injury to others) or medical insurance for an accident. Most travel insurance companies offer this in their list of sports. Due to a long term medical condition I need more insurance than most but sailing within 12 miles of the coast is included in Category A. The others, B, C and D cost extra and include jet ski, bunjee jump, hot air balloon etc. If it's not included there is normally an option to upgrade the insurance. Anything to do with the boats and equipment should (will) be covered by them.

	The 3rd party liability thing is an absolute nightmare for sailing as it's excluded on any holiday insurance I could find. Ocean Elements aren't the only company demanding this and the only solution I have found is to take up their recommended insurance. If Ocean Elements say you have to have it, they must be able to recommend a company whose policies actualy covers your for water born craft.

	Sportscover Direct (Linked on the Noble Marine web site). Their T&Cs seemed to have changed since last year to include dinghies. Are catamarans considered to be dinghies?
