What a crock of sh1t. I really don't understand your points about having nowhere to go once you have mastered certain boats. In saying that you highlight your complete lack of understanding of the whole sport. This sport is about connecting to the equipment you use, understanding weather patterns, the specific methods of tuning your boat for the prevalent conditions, and how to manage your position on the racecourse in the presence of others within the rules.
You make it out to be some sort of hierarchical skills ladder where the only way is up and that once at the top you give up, but you then fail to see the importance of developing the finesse and the overall game play. I consider that I have mastered many boats in terms of pure sailing skill, but have yet to master the game play, strategy and finesse. As such I feel comfortable jumping from an RS700, into a 49er or an RS600, and yet still really enjoy racing my Graduate. That perhaps is why you see us as some weird bunch of stuck in the past anti-marketing types, because the boat is only a very small part of what we do and for many it's a far smaller part than others. For people wanting a physically challenging singlehander to hike out in, then the 300 offers a fantastic option. That it doesn't fit in with your view of sailing is probably a huge relief to the 300 fleet as at least they won't have to contend with your constant negative babble at all there open meetings! |

+1. It's also about the people you choose to race against. People don't give up football or athletics because they've learned to operate the shoes. |

Well you misunderstand my meaning, given the days are now numbered for your pride and joy, and one must assume you all 'get off' on its cantankerousness as a sailing device, I'm merely putting the subject up for conjecture as to what to do with you lot. What other ludicrously unstable and time consuming craft is there left to fill such a void? Beats me, but then I wouldn't waste my time, I'm lucky enough to have the English Channel to make my life difficult on occasion, so don't need the additional help of a difficult to control dinosaur.

The boat is irrelevant, quality of racing is all that matters ...

The boat isn't irrelevant - it is simply part of the equation. |

This whole thread is doing my head in. It seems to be "dissing" a class that gives a fair number of people a lot of enjoyment. Should we all not celebrate the diversity in our sport?

Really- I see it nigh on every contribution saying it's a great boat- albeit not the most commercial from the RS stable, hence why it's been sh*t-canned.

Jeez guys, I am the biggest 300 fan and my ears pricked up when I heard it was no longer in the rs stable. Now all you need to do is set up an association in your own right so that your membership fees are not helping to fund the 2 ,4's etc. not that I'm sure the 300 generates a load of money for the association.
But as mentioned earlier it's been corrected that the 300 now has a new (were they not building them anyway) retailer which is great...this thread is generating interest in the class. Which is only a good thing for you. 300 traffic on this forum had dried to virtually nothing which was a shame as for years it was the forums choice of single hander. So please try and see the positives of online debate, and understand that any publicity is good publicity!

I think LDc stopped selling Fireballs a couple of decades ago, but they're still out there. |

LDC were not the sole builder or marketer of fireballs in the world though.
