No idea that there was any text on either of JimC's posts - both are completely blank.

I swapped it around so that the text was above the photos, and the whole post still disappears (and reappears in landscape)

OK even weirder! If I look at JimC pics first in landscape, nothing appears. If I rotate the Nexus to portrait, both appear and if I then rotate to landscape they still appear.
Merlin 54 appears in both modes and does not change. Just shows the superiority of the class! But why!!!! |

Unfortunately the trick of changing from landscape to portrait does not always work. If you go to the 'Defeat at the hands of the Europe' thread then iGRF second post does not appear in either landscape or portrait.
Also when you change to portrait, the pics in iGRF third post on that thread vanish after appearing in landscape mode!!! |

Folks, I'm very sorry. I cannot work out why on earth these pictures are behaving so weirdly. It is probably to do with whether the image is hosted by our servers (you uploaded it from your computer to the forum) or elsewhere (you used the 'add image' button and told it a URL from elsewhere).
I'm sure it is my fault somehow, so I will keep looking at it; my next window of opportunity is after the Dinghy Show though so please be patient, and I'll figure it out during March if I can. |

Its bloody complicated, whatever the problem is. Image size seems to be a significant part of it too, but there are a lot of variables. All the different platforms we have now make it tricky, although its a good thing the lazy webmaster can no longer put up "best viewed in Internet destroyer at 1024*768", life is troublesome. With the http://www.intcanoe.org front page I've even gone as far as having different text content at different screen sizes to try and get what I want...

I have solved the issue for me:
I have an android phone and a Nexus7. If I use the Chrome browser on the phone I have the problem. If I use the pre installed native Android Browser on the phone(also available on Play Store) I don't have a problem. I've now installed the Android browser by Digital Cookies onto my nexus7 and it all works great. it may work for others. Edited by transient - 24 Feb 14 at 6:57pm |

Ok, Mags its definately a browser issue. The 'Silk' browser on the Kindle Fire doesn't display all the pics however if I change to the 'Dolphin HD' browser then they display fine, the only problem is that Dolphin doesnt display the page as nicely and is a bit slower. So it looks like the various android browsers are all handling embedded pics in different ways.
Good luck!!!! |

Mags
Now that the pimple at the top of the hill aka Dinghy Show is out of the way can you turn your undoubted problem solving talents to sort out the missing pics problem (flattery may get us somewhere). As a case in point, neiher of the two posts today under PIC of Day thread (one by er indoors) show up on Nexus 7 tablet running Android whether tablet is held portrait or landscape or after waiting an age. I think the problem started with the last update of the Android o/s. |
