East Coast Piers Race (www.eastcoastpiersrace.com) is sponsored by Adnams, always have a few kegs of their specials available for £2 a pint - all money goes to charity.... |

Trouble is these days it can be hard for a club to generate sufficient sales to do proper beer. We had to go to all bottled when we started throwing away the end of most barrels because it wasn't selling fast enough. |

we had the same talking point at an AGM a while ago.... the crowd who actually use the bar apparently couldn't drink the beer quick enough. 'Ullage' became the default answer to any problems... Apparently thanks to a better social programme, the bar now makes a profit and they've still retained some tapped beer.

Oh dear God, why did you bring that up? The last time I did the Barrel as part of our old boys team, due to flight arrivals etc. I consumed the whole of our punch bowl. It's no surprise I was a bit ill. |

I'm surprised you weren't dead... or at least mortally wounded.

Trust me it was close. Being thrown out of the club due to repeatedly falling asleep/unconscious and being carried back to my bed in the uni gym!
Still sailed a blinder the next day! |

to be fair having seen the boats that Craiggo kept afloat for his team back then (somehow, god only knows), being blind would have been an advantage.... at least you wouldn't have actually known you were racing an utterly shagged out 420 against a flight of newish Larks.
