I hate to say it but probably the solo simply because it is slow. For the very reasons previously mentioned in that it pushes a lot of water out of the way. Always look good in tough conditions. The finn is pretty much the same

I like the power and think the 14 is smarter than most of its ilk (probably due to the personalisation and individual tastes of the owners), but these skiff photos are very 1990s 'sailing is kewell / extreme', which i think seems a bit old hat thesedays. |

My earliest recollection of sailing 'things' were Sheerwater cats sailed in Folkestone Harbour, then the next time I noticed was when a Miracle ran me down even though I called Starboard on my windsurfer that would have been around '78, the Sheerwaters were much earlier and all the dinghies that raced the Channel, I can't honestly say I paid much mind to other than to photograph them lined up on the beach. I've been trying to google the race but to no end it was quite a spectacle, maybe an early Y&Y might have it archived.
As to you young Gruit, I would have taught blokes your age, I used to teach at the local Art College in the seventies, including stuff like parallax which you SLR blokes wouldn't have a clue how to deal with. Edited by iGRF - 11 Sep 13 at 9:08am |

I thought the saying was "Those who can't, teach"? Don't you worry Mr GRF sir I've learned on everything from 35mm to large format 10x8" negs, twin and single reflex. Thanks for the 'young' comment too, I'm probably a bit older than you think I am. |

Best shot I've seen of a solo .... Partly 'cos the spray looks so much prettier than the boat. What speed was the RIB doing while it was towing that Solo ...... No Solo born can really go that fast
