So two situations. Which is legal, which is not, when would illegal become legal and legal become illegal? 1) Sailing on the sea with the waves coming from quarter. You bear off with the wave and as it passes head up to catch the next one. You sheet in and out awhile heading up and bearing off as well as using boat trim. Consequence is you sail a course of small S’s ; and, 2) Looking for gusts (no waves). Bearing off with them and heading up to get to them. If the gusts are big you sail long S’s if the gusts are small but many you sail small S’s but not a small as in 1 above as you stay with pressure longer than you stay with a passing wave. I think the point I am trying to make is if you are using the main sheet with the boat trim to position the boat correctly in each of the above then when would it be pumping? |

Lucky The EPS class, (south east division) permits pumping then.(Even on murky inland venues surrounded by trees and men wearing bottle costumes)

Neither 1 nor 2 break a rule! When you change course you may trim.
One pump per wave or gust to intitate planing or durfing is allowed. If you are already surfing or planing you may not pump. If planing or surfing conditions do not exist you may not pump. |

Is nobody going to answer the fellas question? Before I admit I haven't a clue either and would actually like to know, unfortunately I gave my carefully printed and bound copy of the rules away to our lead Merlin Bandit on his fiftieth birthday, hinting I might have made a few changes, thus ensuring he read it cover to cover.

What about running up and down the boat, I recall that essential surfing action was also frowned on once upon a time..
