I don't see how they can make the Voodoo thing the same weight as the MPS and 2 foot longer ... oh well, when they have finsihed the project we'll all see what the score is, until then there is only really one choice ...

Hence the reason I thought it was bare hull weight. For it to be as light as the MPS but 2 foot longer wouldn't that demand a more expensive construction to make a boat which is bigger but just as light? ........ (and from what I remember, Contenders are fairly light, aren't they???)

From the contender class rules:

16.1 The hull in dry condition shall not weigh less than 83kg including all fixed fittings and a traveler strop, but excluding the centreboard and its retaining fittings. In case the compass is fixed to the hull the trade mark and type of the compass must be noted in the measurement certificate.

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

The rules can't be argued with, but always thought they were really light boats. I haven't sailed contenders before but know a lot of people who did and still do. Maybe they're light in comparision to 505s which is the other class the majority of the Contender sailors I know also sailed....

Latest pictures of the newest 'R' class design to be launched. For those
that don't know about em' they live in NZ and have slightly less up wind
sail area than a UK cheurb and slightly more down wind area and are just
a tiny bit longer.

Would love to see those "R" classes reach the UK, lots of scope there for ideas for UK Cherubs though........

Apart from that boom being so low. Wont it make for awful slow tacking especially in a breeze. Dontfancy being at the front end of that unless it was a one way run downwind
