actually, now I compare, I'm wrong, the panels are different However, in my defence, the panel layout that was shown in the artists impressions, when I was making claim that it was identical, DO have the same layout as the 900 main- so they've changed between that and the real sail Edited by alstorer - 20 Oct 12 at 9:27am |

I think the 900 had a longer mast so it's not the same actual sail but near as dammit from that photo.

I think we could go so far as to say there has been major influence between the 2 sails, and why not? Shame to lose all that research.

The photographed 800 sail is quite different from the 900/proposal image- for instance, the window extending above the lowest batten.

The sail in the proposal image was also much bigger than the current sail when you over lay them. I think they're trying to keep the sail area the same, although I'm not sure how. It does look narrower in this photo mind.

I'd say the wing isn't really the novel bit of the rig. The novel bit is the jib top.
I do wonder though whether this will make trimming of the upper mainsail very difficult as there will be a strong vortex shed from the jib top that wont roll up the leading edge of the main. |

Looking at the report... that's a clever bit of end plating.

Is the leech at the top of the jib connected to that 'end plate' thing?

In the report pic there are definately some control lines running along the top of the endplate, which could connect the jib top to the endplate. My personal view is it wont work. The results don't seem to confirm a performance advantage at all.
