Hi Cat Sailors Don't forget that it is the Grafham Catamaran Invitation Open at Grafham on 20-21 October. There are no fast 2-up catamarans allowed this year due to our previous troubles with these fleets  but the vast majority of catamaran sailors have a boat which they can sail at the event.
The following boats are included:
- Fast Single Handed Handicap SCHRS below 1.12 (Includes Shadows, A Class, Unicorn, F16 single handed, etc) - Sprint 15 & Sprint 15 Sport Inland Championships - Medium Handicap (SCHRS 1.12 to 1.35 (plus Hobie16) The Dart 18s only include The Grafham Cat Open in their traveller series every third year but Dart 18s can take part in the medium handicap fleet.  It's much cheaper than Brightlingsea folks So come on Cat Sailors - come and enjoy (get your chums to come too). no you did not have trouble with the fleets, thats not fair!it was some numb nuts unknown to everyone ive spoken too. 99% of the sailors were no trouble at all to the club! In fact many have supported the event for years, helping to shape the event from its years of woeful race results and carnage on the water to a great cat event. It is fine if the club decides not to hold the event for the 2 man classes but DONT BLAME the entire fleet, that is as I have said, not fair. The Commodores lecture to us last year was like being back at school again! The decision not to award the prizes was pathetic, again punishing all the competitors for the actions of probably one or two. What did the club think we could do about the damage, we knew nothing about it. No -one came forward and spoke to a class representative to ask if we knew who was responsible ( of course we did not) If someone not holding their drink was the problem then why have the bar open? That would be my first action. You are also on very dodgy ground with your inference that the Brightlingsea Cat Open was expensive! You get what you pay for! Brightlingsea gave us first class hospitality, we were made welcome by the whole club, helped by every member we came across. The meals included in the entry were absolutely fantastic, served up with military speed and efficiency by the smiling hordes of helpers. The parties were fantastic the bands great the atmosphere the best I have found at any club. The beachmaster and his team must have been exhausted bringing us all those wheels! Results were quick and accurate too! Simply the club could do no more than they did. At Grafham last year my breakfast roll was uneatable and served by someone who had obviously been on the 'charmless nerk' training course run by the car park attendant. I had to pre -enter, for an open?? If cancelled I would get half my money back. A few friendly locals but far more that didnt seem so welcoming. Thanks to those that gave up their time to man the rescue boats and run the racing, sailors I guess. But a lower entry price does not make for a better event. Its about the event as a whole. Enjoy the open, I hope its a success but dont knock other clubs because in this case you come off worse. Agree with Gary The Brightlingsea Reg fest was the event of the season this year. The organisation was fantastic, the food produced by club members including two evening meals was great, the onshore management was well organised, yes it was relatively expensive but the money was well worth it. As with the majority of things in life you get what you pay for. I have not attended the last two Grafham events so cannot comment as to the damage caused but people know who caused the damage and it should have been down to them to address the culprits and not the club to penalise all competitors. From experience Grafham has not been the best or most accommodation of clubs for Cat Sailors. I can remember turning up on a Friday night with the bar shut and walking down the road to do to the pub only to find everyone was in there. The reason why cat sailors went was it was most central and it was the end of the season bash. I can remember cat sailors travelling from far afield as Scotland to Grafham to attend. Grafham’s loss is Brightlingsea’s or Westons gain. Certainly the club members at Brightlingsea where rubbing their hands together with regard to hosting an end of season event every other year and the income it would generate for the club. Things change and people move on. Fully agree with Gary, don't punish or insinuate about other classes for a couple of idiots. These problems don't happen at any other Cat event in the country. Is it a local doing it? Or a club member who doesn't like the cat open?
