It's started ...

Classes trying to get a bit of PR by claiming the sailors as their own ...

Seems the GPs and Merlins are scrabbling over the same chap ...

Lets face it, people at this level have no doubt been through many classes ... they are sailors, they are not the produce of any one class.

Forget the TeamGB machine ... it's all down to the Merlin Class; producing Olympic winners.Confused

Bithell does sail (rather than "has sailed" those classes.

For once the claims would appear true! Pretty down to earth, really, and just enjoys sailing dinghies, from all I've heard.

Oh for heaven's sake. This upsets you because? What's exactly wrong with people identifying someone as a past or present member of their community?

Its the hype that's rather entertaining. Like the Merlin's claiming the turnout is a who's who of dinghy sailors. Arrant nonsense of course. For a start how many of the Olmpic team are there? One? Not much of a who's who is it...

Where exactly are they claiming that? Not in the piece quoted by the OP.

Yep, that's what I thought the OP was offering a smirk at.

That depends on whether or not you swallow the BS about the Olympic sailors being the best.

Hats off the Stu. Unlike the rest of the Team GB prima donnas he's prepared to associate with us rabble.

A Nationals is about far more than sailing - I bet the Olympic sailors would be terrible at the drinking, being so out of practice, and probably not too good at sleeping under boat covers, having forgotten at 2.00am where they are staying. All good Nationals skills...

I'm not sure rabble is a word I'd associate with the Merlin class.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

As a former Merlin Rocket sailor myself, I'm confident that any current Merlin sailor is sufficiently proficient in written English to correctly interpret the self-deprecating phrase "us rabble" within the context that it was written.
