Hi,
I see in the Olympic results for Race 4 of the Lasers that, Valeriy Kudryashov of the Ukraine scored 31 points, marked DPI. Anyone know what he did to get the DPI?
Thanks.

During the second upwind leg of race 4 UKR Laser crossed the boundary of the competition area. He sailed about 1.5 to 2 boat lengths, tacked and returned within the boundary after over 30 seconds. UKR was not aware that he had crossed the boundary. No other boat was involved.

UKR did not remain in the Competition Area as required under SI 4.2. He sailed toward the boundary for tactical reasons; his misjudgement was a navigational error.

This is assessed to be a breach at the mid-point of Band 1. The penalty is 5% discretionary penalty, which is 2 points, not to exceed points for DSQ.

Ahh thank you. That explains all. Big smile

It reads like you have access to the documents produced by the Olympic Race Committee and Jury Room. Is that publicly accessible online, or are you in a privileged position?

Everybody has access to these documents, they are not trying to keep secrets, check the ISAF web site...

So the boundary was set such that you couldn't sail to the lay-line for the windward mark, presumably? Unless I'm missing the point it sounds absurd.

I'm also wondering how the boundaries are marked?
