Does anyone know if it is possible to buy replacement tyres for a standard trolley wheel? It seems a shame to have to buy a whole new assembly when the rim and inner tube are still in good condition.

It's infuriating, isn't it when you can't find a single replacement (cheap) component and end up having to buy a whole new unit - not very 'green' and more ££!!

If you have any large builders merchants or farm suppliers nearby, you could try there. Otherwise good old ebay could be the place i.e;

I know that listing includes an innertube which you don't need right now, but it does demonstrate that they can be found at the right price. The postage does bump it up a bit though.

Have you tried Micheldever tyres they stock most tyres including wheelbarrow tyres

The small road trailer tyres fit most trolley wheels. So you could find an old road trailer wheel that has rusted through and swap the tyre.

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Amazon have tyres at £8.99 and whole wheelbarrow wheels at £9.99.  At that price I would probably go for the whole wheel.

I bought trolley tyres from here, got ones in solid construction with chunky tread.

Has anyone tried filling old trolley tyres with expanding foam?

400x8 4ply barrow tyres - I keep them in stock at £8.86 inc VAT, supply only. More if you want them fitted! Any tyre supplier can get them...

B&Q sell solid rubber wheels (green in colour) which I have on one trolley. A bit heavier than the blow up ones, but should last better.

Yes,
it wasn't me, honest!
But I was there to laugh at the mess.
PU foam is not springy, it progressively crushes.
It also sticks rubber to concrete.......

Yes, we have a fleet of Picos.... (see below) and tried it on two tyres we were going to throw. It err doesnt work. You cant get it all the way round and also the weight of the boat compresses the foam and it becomes harder to drag up a slope that a punctured tyre.

We have Solid tyres at the centre. They cost a wee bob and yes are heavier but will hopefully last. They look like agricultural tyres!

not used expanding foam but I have used the 'tyreweld' stuff for two trolley wheels and two wheel barrow wheels with all going strong 6months later.  At £9 or so a can it is not that cheap though.

Further to this thread....
Does anyone know how to get a tyre on and off the wheel? I've got a puncture that I would like to repair. Tried bicycle tyre levers, but they broke. Tried screwdrivers, but cannot get enough stretch in the tyre bead to get it off the wheel.

Any other ideas?

I did mine recently and they didn't fight too hard BUT you must push the tyre's "bead" (the wire round the inside edge of the tyre) all the way down into the "valley" in the middle of the wheel rim all the way round first. If you just try and lift it straight over the edge it is is too tight.
This then gives you enough slack at one point around the circumfrence to get a lever in and to prize the tyre over the rim's wall.
I hope that makes sense?

Yes eventually discovered that techique when I realised the valley was in the centre. Shame I had to break my bicycle repair kit, but trolley wheel back in action with no other expense!

+1 for Micheldever Tyres for any vehicle tyres - used to use them when I lived nearer as they were always cheaper than the quotes I could get elsewhere.
