Hi All

Trying to book a flotilla yacht for a family holiday in Croatia (Split area) this summer.  In the past we have done two flot holidays in 38-40ft yachts as a family of 5.  This year there will only be four of us, one of whom is convalescent and likely to have limited strength to participate in crewing tasks.

My options are 36ft and 42 ft (no 40 footers available since we are booking late) and I'd like a bit of advice on whether a Sun Odysssey 42i might be too much for us, from a handling perspective.

We will be (1) me, day skipper qualified, most experienced sailor on the boat; (2) my wife, recovering from illness, experienced sailor but not the strongest; (3) 15 y old son, 6ft, 75kg, can steer & haul on ropes; (4) 13 y old son, physically strong but not confident.

Are we going to be 'man enough' between us to handle a 42fter?

Thanks for your thoughts :-)

If in doubt go for the smaller yacht due to lower loads, smaller sails to reef and easier to park at night.

We have done 2 a flotillas also and both times we have had a 32 footer which had plenty of space. This year (not been for a couple of years) the children are bigger and more confident we are going for a 38 footer.
