Some pictures of the contender during its winter work.
She is almost there. We have removed nearly 3Kg of gelcoat from the top deck alone, sanded all of the old embossed grip off, removed 1.5 Kg from lead I found in the hull.

Another coat of paint and a little more grip and itll be there.

New mast step going on as well as a few new blocks.

Picking up the carbon mast next weekend, she'll be race ready for next thursday.

Do you need to get contenders reweighed when you take out the lead?

Anything that affects the mass of the boat means it will need to be re-measured and recorded.
I have kept the lead that i have removed just incase she is underweight. She was overweight before i started to do the work

does that involve a full re-measure in the contender class or just a re-weigh and stamp on the certificate?

I think it's just a re weigh of the hull, then the cert signed.  Looks great!

the same, but different...

With that much pro-grip, you may not need the lead!

Looks good, should be fun.

That progrip will make it much nicer to sail, the added weight will make little difference.Thumbs Up

How do you take gel coat off neatly then reapply?

I have spent hours sanding and filling then more sanding. I have applied a painted finish instead of gelcoat as its a fraction of the weight.

Looks like a late Rondar, in which case you can probably sell the lead. Looks great, wish I'd had the time and space to have done this to mine when I had them.

I think its going to be touch and go wether or not the lead will be needed.

I ordered my 1982 (and last) Rondar Contender with a black hull and turquoise decks becasue I was told they were the lightest gel coats Rondar did at the time.  I had to add lots of lead...  K316.  Anybody know if she is still afloat?
