Hi all - newbie here.

I did try and search for an answer for my post (honest) but failed. So firstly, sorry if this has been asked 100 times before.

RS600 owner and I'd like to do a bit of maintenance on the boat before spring. Does anyone know the best way to tidy-up a carbon mast. I had heard you simply rub them down with sand paper and apply a new coat of varnish ?? just want the boat to look a little better this summer. TBH I spend more time up-side-dwon so I should tidy up the hull LOLLOL

Thanks for any help

AJ

Wet and dry don't dry sand.

International two pot seems to last well once its done.

Personally I reckon that if varnish provided really good UV protection it wouldn't peel off as often as it does. So I paint my masts in something light coloured rather than varnish. I suggest something like 320 grit wet and dry, and use it wet if for no other reason than it lasts better. Use lukewarm water and put a dash of washing up liquid in it. Try and remove everything loose but the absolute minimum of actual fibre.

paint's cheaper too. I now have a mast sock and don't worry about either.

But your boat also lives in its own personal shed on wheels Jack!

with paint, you can go for a pimp colour to match or contrast the hull

hmmm ... I could paint it Blackwater Muddy Brown - the top's normally that colour anyway Wink
what type of paint chaps ? I assume it needs to be pretty flexible as the RS mast is raked right back under tenison.

Beer cheers

I have just done my 600 mast so know the problems i found that most of my varnish was very loose so i got one of those window blades with the stanle knive edge and just went along very carefully and got the whole lot off  Then i used some very fine wet and dry again it was hard going but worth it in the end and it looks like new now
