How do you guys think GBR will do?

and has anyone got tickets? if not are you going to chance it and see if you can see from the beaches?

In my opinion I think we have great potential and we will definitly pick up more than one gold on home waters. But watching wise i think it will be better to see it on TV than stand on the beaches without a ticket and risk not seeing anything, or seeing from far away. however I realise the atmousphere wont be the same from ont he sofa.

Well I won't be watching it on TV - the camera boats and helicopters should all be banned! They intefere with the sailing and get people into a rageAngry

I may now attend, not cos I have a ticket, but just to 'sabotage' the media boats before they can get into team GBR's way........

.... only kidding!

We must be on for a medal inthe Star ...

I'd say we have a chance of a medal in everything except the Radial.

And the gold medal for the most wins goes to.....LASER!

I would prefer it if you didn't, I don't fancy having to swim about with my camera equipment! Smile

After all the hype, I'm predicting a realistic but disappointing set of results - 2 silvers and a bronze, with others coming 4th, and a couple completely out of it. 2 Silvers Finn and Laser, bronze ladies windsurfing. And a new set of younger, keener sailors for 2016.

I'm just really pleased to see some real talent in the women's 470 at last.  This is a tough class for us Brits as we have no grass roots competition in this class from which to build a talent base, as opposed to other European countries.  Let's hope the girls can do well and get other women into the class and sailing in general.

the same, but different...

Venue verdict as of this weekend:

- WPNSA excellent
- Sailing areas seem good from the maps
- Weymouth not good at all, in fact worse than that, run down and tatty
- Portland very poor indeed, even by standards as low as they were 10yrs ago

Oh dear, this really is a poor show IMPO and reflects badly on our country, not a place I would personally want to stay or go back to, I'll watch the sailing on the telly thanks...

...anyone else got a different experience of Weymouth?

Weymouth is a dated town. I was there about 10 years ago for the J24 nationals. I would have expected that the council would have thrown a bit of cash at the place to tart it up........obviously not if you say its still tatty

I have heard great things about WPNSA. Hopefully those facilities will gloss over its actual location.

I love going back to Weymouth - I grew up sailing in Weymouth bay so I am biased.
Having said that, it is a Victorian seaside resort and as such is tired and tatty in areas.  The areas that have been redeveloped are more attractive (South side of the old harbour for example), but I prefer it out of season when the Grockels have gone home.

Portland can be very grim in places, but the sea off Portland Bill can be very impressive to watch (from the land) especially in a storm with wind against tide.

Although the hundreds of thousand of people who holiday annually in Weymouth may think otherwise.

I am biased. I'm Weymouth born and bread so for me it's not just about appearances - which I don't think are particular bad anyway. But as a Weymouth boy I am duty bound to take the p!ss out of Portland which can be a bit grey and bleak, especially surrounding the Academy but then again I have family who adore the place too.

One good thing about Portland is the view.
This is the view from the Sculpture park (yes Portland has a sculpture park!).
