As a thought would it not be an idea to have a central catamaran diary so we can see when and where all cats events are being hosted including the long distance races??

Just a thought

There is an UKCRA one John but I don't think it gets updated, hence I thought this would be a good idea.

Here is the link to the calendar.

Don’t get me started on the UKCRA site. It is never up dated and there are boat for sale on there that have been sold on twice since first appearing on the site.

Given that this is the most up to date and active forum for cat sailors it would be good to have a calendar that everyone can see what is going on. Good start with the google calendar.

I agree the UKCRA site could be updated more but we have to remember that people are all volunteers working on the updates, good on them for taking on the job.

Let's keep track of the events, this was more for my benefit with the Tornado website.

On another note, they probably don't know about boats being sold. If you send me over the boats that have been sold I will pass them onto Carl and Colleen for removal from the site.

It would be great to have a tool which people can add to themselves but I know from experience that the spammers just love that sort of stuff.

Cheers

Andrew

The Y&Y online calendar has a 'feed' page which can list events for just one club or class - but it also handles general multihull events too.

This link will show a basic web page of all multihull events:
http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/calendar/feed.asp?type=HTML&class=237 - www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/calendar/feed.asp?type=HTML&class=237
It's also available for RSS.
(This might help you more than the 'search' page, where you need to enter just one class.)

Now, it looks a bit bare at present, because we have reached the time of year where open meetings have died off, and people are arranging next year's dates, but have not published to Y&Y yet. Always a sorry time of year for any online calendar!

If the cat classes/clubs send in details of any fixtures already booked (such as the ones listed in the first post on this thread) to Y&Y, the link above will then give you a better idea of clashes in 2012.

If you wish to add your own events to the Y&Y calendar, please sign up:

Hi,
The Grafham Management Council met last night and today have put out the following statement:

"Unfortunately, following vandalism incidents at the last 3 Grafham Cat Opens, it has been decided by the Flag Officers and Council of GWSC that we cannot allow the Cat Open to continue in its present form.  We have decided that for 2012 we will allow a restricted and rebranded event to take place, effectively only allowing boats to enter that have been previously part of the “slow” fleet (including Dart/Sprint 15s). However should similar acts of vandalism occur in the future then GWSC will undoubtedly take further action.

We are sorry that this means that the “fast” catamarans will no longer be able to take part, but we cannot allow the repeated selfish acts of a very small unidentified minority to adversely affect the event, the sailing club, or our relationship with our neighbours.

Tom Smith,

Commodore GWSC"

The Grafham Cat Open has been the UKs biggest Catamaran event for the last 25+ years and now sadly come to an end.  This is the result ot the vandalism which has occurred for the last 3 years consecutively. Doubtless it was just one or 2 individuals who were to blame, but they have stopped was has been for many the highlight of the Catamaran Season.

Maybe we can all borrow Darts for the weekend.

A bit gutted really, Grafham was a real celebration of cat sailing in the UK.

Agreed; I've missed 2 in 30 years.  My dad was Fleet captain and I am currently fast cat fleet captain.

I worked very hard to get this years event on after 2 years of problems; now wonder what the feckin point was; I now look stupid.

Who ever it was; Well done idiot.   If you know who it was; please apply considerable pressure.

All,

The date for the Solent Forts Race will be 13th May.

This is a new long distance cat event held in the Eastern Solent; see http://www.hfsc.org.uk/ - http://www.hfsc.org.uk/

Hopefully no clashes with any other events!

This is sad for cat sailing but have these sort of problems happened at other cat opens? If not, why Grafham?

They (Grafham) either have a good idea that it was someone from the fast fleet or using fleet split as a method of deduction.

I am fairly sure the persons responsible are known and that the incidents do not spread as they do not attend many/other events in England.  To be fair, I am not convinced they have been responsible for both previous incidents (maybe one of them) but that does not excuse the behaviour having been forewarned.  Such a shame they did not quietly admit to it and take responsibility for their behaviour (even anonymously)... esp. as it has such an affect on others.

Hi John... and everyone..

I am webmaster for the nacraclass site and I have an embedded google calendar for events..

http://www.nacraclass.org.uk/events.html - http://www.nacraclass.org.uk/events.html

I will go through this message thread if this is what is wanted and add all the dates into here..

further more I am prepared to put out a cat diary website for everyone...  but I need people and more importantly class associations to give me the info..

I too am fed up with the UKCRA site.. I tried to place a rocket under the people responisble a couple of years ago but seems they were not interested.. maybe I need to enhance and make a 'alternate UKCRA' site..

your thoughts please......

Hey Yello Streak,

Feel free to add these events to the calendar, it's a good idea. Everything which has been posted in this thread has been added to the first post.

Speaking to the people who currently run the UKCRA site, they also have the same problem, if they don't get the info they can't update the website. Often event dates change at the last minute or they receive incorrect information.

I guess there are just too many places to look for events and their dates. The main reason I added this was to avoid clashes of events.

Cheers

Andrew

I've also been told about:
17-18 Mar - Fast Cat Open Meeting - Datchet Water SC
20-21 Oct - Catamaran Open Meeting - Grafham Water SC

All the events listed in the first post of this thread have been added to the Y&Y website calendar too (thank you!). Input your class name (or just the word "catamaran") in the search box on http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/calendar/ - www.yachtsandyachting.com/calendar to see a list of all events relevant to you.

Alternatively our feeds work for cats too:
1) http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/calendar/feed.asp?type=HTML&class=237 - simple html table
2) http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/community/calendar/feed.asp?type=XML&class=237 - RSS / XML

These will also include the general handicap events which allow multihulls.

I thought the Grafham event had been shelved due to repeat 'vandalism' at the previous three events, or has the issue/culprits been 'sorted'?
Netherless, they are hosting the Sprint 15 class inlands over that weekend.

The Grafham event was added to the Y&Y calendar by Barry (from the club) back in December.

I also see the event is still listed on the club's own website:

I thought I heard that the Grafam event is for 'slow' cats (if they really exist!). Maybe they are bringing the classes in as smaller groups, so they can identify the culprits!

They do have the event posted on their website

I have reviewed the list at the start of this posting and from a Hurricane and Bala catamaran club perspective all the events seems to be included.

It is possible to put them on a Google calendar so we can link our personal calendars to it? I know this was something that the F18 class did

From previous postings the Grafham event was only open to Dart 15’s and none of the fast cat classes. That was my understanding

Good to see cat sailors  coming out of winter hibernation

If you actually look closely at the events page on the UKCRA website you will see it links to a google calendar for classes and clubs to post their events (it has been set up like this for the last 2 years!!). My partner has been running the website for the last 3 years on a volunteer basis and to be honest, has got a bit fed up with the lack of content sent to us to keep the site fresh. This has been compounded by my partner having taken on 2 jobs in the last  year or so leaving no time to be proactive in refreshing the site.

Bizzarly we were both discussing this very thing together a couple of years ago when we set up the nacra class association

perhaps we could use UKCRA's google calendar instead and if your prepared to share the login then I can update that on your behalf.

We only want to get all the events in one place after all.
