The first F16 UK titles racing will take place at Pendine Sands in West Wales August 26th - August 29th

See the following link for details

http://www.geocities.com/stealthmarine2002/funcup - www.geocities.com/stealthmarine2002/funcup

or contact John Pierce direct on stealthmarATaol.com or johnpierceATstealthmarine.co.uk

Should be a really good event with a proposed 9 races over 3 days. It's going to be good to at last get a group of F16's together so that we can compare notes, technique and gear (and also find out who's hot and who's not)

Spitfires are 'grandfathered' into the Formula 16 class, so I guess the answer is 'Yes'. Best to check with the organiser, John Pierce, though....

I could also sail my Inter 17 as well as this is another grandfathered class (but only singlehanded) - Well in theory anyway !

My cat club held the first F-16 National Championships a few years back in 2 on Trap spinnaker Taipans.  Had a good fleet but never took off and faided away.

Hope you guys have a little more success.....

Hi Stephen,

F16 may not have taken off at your club, but we haven't faded away. F16 states have been held in Vic. the last two years and I know of six new boats being built around OZ. Never mind all the Taipan 4.9's that can join in anytime and do occasionaly.

In fact F16 in Australia is intending to hold Nationals at the Forster Widcat regatta this year.

F16 may not be as numerous as F18 which I know you are about to get into, but we are growing, partcularly now some optimised F16's are hitting the water. Watch out for us on that Capricorn this season.

Regards Gary.

Hi Gary,

Good to here and glad to see the some guys in Vic are pushing ahead with it.

I crewed on one to the Taipan F-16s @ the Nats and loved it.  Its a shame that some of the Taipan guys who were into the F16 concept have moved away from the class.  Taipan would make a perfect platform.

Are there many Mossie's (F16 or standard) around for sale and what are the $$$$$.

How many F16s did you get + results.  Are there many running 2 up......

Hi Stephen,

most F16 sailing two up in OZ are still Taipan 4.9's, you are right they are a great boat for it. The first Mossies in Vic.to sail F16 where one up, so there are more of them but two ups are growing in  numbers, but are not suited to big crews.

Price and availability wise best to check website.http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mosquito/

Short report on states at F16 Forum.www.catsailor.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Bo ard=Fleet45&Number=49563&page=5&view=collapsed&a mp;sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Many thanks to John and Sue for organising and hosting the UK 'Nationals'. We all had a fantastic time and even managed to get John a life-ban from Pendine Beach! Such a shame that only 6 boats attended, but we had some really close racing! Here's hoping that more of you will join in what is bound to become an annual event.

Conditions varied from F1 and a choppy swell through to F4+ and large rollers. Seven really good races and uni's against sloops seemed to prove that the F16 concept works as the boats appeared to be fairly evenly matched in either configuration.

Once again, very many thanks to John and Sue and not forgetting John's parents, John Snr and Maggie who helped to make us very welcome and worked so hard throughout the weekend.

These just received from John Pierce:

Results f16 uk titles:

All boats were Stealth F16 other than Mark Presdee who sailed a Stealth R. The winning boat was the oldest of the F16's and was using the older 'R' hulls with the older style bow. Other than the shape of the bow these hulls are the same as the current Stealth F16 hulls.

He allowed us to run free on the beach, intimidating and frightening small children and old ladies

(at least that was sort of what was claimed - as if !!!) They're a very quaint and quiet bunch down at Pendine......

As I said earlier, good close racing. Just to underline that statement, going into the last race any one of 3 boats could have won. Two sloops, one uni. In the end though none of the three contenders finished that race - I DNF'd after hitting a submerged log or similar and destroying my port centreboard case. Dave Tugwell DNF'd due to an unwell crew and Gary capsized in the surf and got into a few difficulties when it turned out that his mast wasn't air/watertight.

That last race was sailed in about 18 knots of wind with a swell of about 4.5ft. Lovely! Just a shame about the breakages..... I think some people were also feeling the after effects of 3 consecutive evenings of brummie/welsh hospitality - I know I was

If you got banned form the beach, I'm sure it was down to Pressdee; he's usually the reason we get banned form pubs... :-)

Whoever was the cause shall for the moment remain nameless....

However, having met Mark, I can relate to your comment Colin!!
