I have seen that many sailors are wanting to move out into 29ers from boats such as toppers.

As I am very much a topper/laser sailor (because I haven't tried anything els) I am just wandering what the attraction to them is (apart from image). I know about the strong crew/helm teamwork required but I was just wandering how they handle as a boat and what the correct helm and crew weight. I am just interested as I i like trying new things and am a bit nerdy as I find this stuff interesting     : )

The main attraction is that they are fast, exciting boats that are challenging to sail. They're very responsive (provided you keep the boat moving) and as with all skiffs, the faster you go the more stable the boat is. Ie. the faster you make the boat go the easier it is for you to keep it upright. Skiffs don't handle well at low speeds, they're tippy and difficult. You probably want about 120kg minimum for the boat, so you can handle the boat in most conditions and also to right it quickly after a capsize. Any lower than that and you're going to struggle to keep it upright when the breeze picks up, which will make it really hard to be competitive. They're lovely boats and because of the huge class you'll never be short of people to ask questions.
