as i have had tuition for many different coaches i have heard contradictory techniques for sailing downwind
the one i heard most recently was to let the kicker right off and sheet in a bit to create a twist in the top section of the sail
however i once got told off for not sheeting right out
i don't know which is best any advice and clarification would be really helpful

Best advice would be to but Paul Goodisons Laser book. Probably different set ups in different conditions..

Both do work though you will find some will prefer one to the other as it will suit there sailing style better.

Personally I prefer kicker right off and sheet in to create twist as it lets me sail a little more aggressively downwind...
