With a auto rachet where is the best place to put it?
I have the option of either on the boom end or on the transom or does it make little difference?
Thanks

IME Ratchets seem to be best put on the last block of the system before the sheet gets to your hand: there is less drag on the line when you want the sheet to run out that way.

We had this question (or something similar) a short while ago and the consensus was at the end of the run just as you come to hand

That is what I thought but it's good to find that others also think that.

Au contraire .... mine's on the transom; because that way the rope goes round 180 degrees of ratchet block giving more grip (it's only a 40mm block).

cunning positioning of the autos on our kite sheets means that as it gets windier and you move progressively further and further aft more and more of the circumference of the block is used. I think even the main ratchet, on the boom, does this to some extent, as in heavy weather the stik waggler does need to be a little further aft upwind.

Put mine on the strop of the 14 and a single 40 on the boom. Never had a mainsheet better and easier to use
