hi all, i just bought 100m of dyneema for my control lines/shrouds/halyard for my new cherub. How do i splice it, as iv heard it loses strength ion knots, plus the control lines need toi be continuous.

its 4mm, ill check how many strands at the weekend (the joys of boarding school)

look on the marlow website they tell you all, just get yourself a small fid or needle,
also i wouldnt use standard dyneema for shrouds, you would need somthing like SK90 or the likes for that, as the creap and stretch is quite large, if you do, then put the rig tension on and off lots before sailing to try to bed it all in,
also as control lines it doesnt cleat very well
sorry to piss on your fire

I'd probably try removing some core, feeding the bungee into the outer, and stitching. Possibly some whipping over the junction too.

Very vague question rickstar - What kind of cordage are we talking?

End-to-End splices between sizes are quite common.

If your just looking at something like 12-strand its very straightforward and there are plenty of guides online. You dont even need any special tools - a bit of wire and some tape will do fine.

Double braid gets a bit more tricky to do neatly but its certainly possible if you take your time. The smaller sizes get progressively more tricky though so most people tend to taper each end and splice together as per 12-strand.

Anything with a parallel core is doable with some know-how and a particularly stuborn personality but it can be a real pain to work with and somewhat unreliable if you dont know what your doing. I wouldnt bother in the size range your looking at unless you really like your boat bimbling or know a rigger with a lot of free time.
