I missed the beginning but did they once again fail to mention any of our many world champions including Ed Wright in an Olympic class.
They used to have all the sailing world champions in the audience but we seem to have fallen out of favour with the BBC.

I thought that lovely Amy on the Tray (Luge thinghy)should have won, but then the only time I ever voted was for Jensen Button/Joe Calzachy however its spelt won last year anyway. I was actually waiting for The Apprentice final to start, so too just saw the end.
Who are some of these sporting folk? I think I knew Jessica Enis was heptathlete, and vaguely heard of the BBC Sports personality winning Jock, but was that ' fellow fat b' a darts man, maybe he too sails and loves wooden boats, no matter what the handycap

Is darts a sport? Thought it was a pub game. May be we should nominate a bar billiards champion next year, or dominoes, or cribbage.

Im quite surprised that Ben Ainslie has not come close to winning already. Especially with the amount of work he's done with British sailing over the years, all the medals hes won, and the fact hes been named ISAF World Sailor of the Year a few times aswell. I dont know why sailing seems to come so far under the radar considering we are an island. You would think that this would be the national sport.
The only one with a hint of a sailing connection on this years SP was Amy Williams (who should have at least come in the top 3) as her sled was designed by Ship Science PhD students at the University of Southampton.

Realistically Ben won't get mass media attention/win Sports Personality of the Year/get a knighthood until he's won another medal, as per Steve Redgrave. Very unfair I know, but for whatever reason this country seems fixated by football and to a lesser extent cricket and rugby. Anyone from other sports needs to do something completely remarkable to even register.

I think AP McCoy was a very deserving winner. You can't have all sports in it every year.

Hi
I agree A P Mc Coy is a deserving winner but they used to go through all sorts of sports not just Football, Rugby, Golf, Cricket and the 30 seconds they now seem to spend on anything like athletics etc. I can remember 505 and Fireball world champions being mentioned and Jeremy Robinson and Bill Masterman being in the audience amongst other sailors.
If think that very soon BBC will not be able to afford to show any major sports it would be good for them to feature more diverse sports.

there's no way a fat bloke who stays indoors and throws things at a board should stand on the same platform as people who have to train hard for their sport (and I include jockeys in this.)  The only day Jess Ennis will take off this year will be Christmas Day, and she had to think hard before deciding to do that!

Sport should be divided into sport (physical involving aerobic exercise) and recreational (darts, fishing etc.) with recreational always having to give preference to sport and not getting funding. It would encourage a fitter nation as well as sort out the perennial problem of sailors v fishermen!

And Amy Williams should have won - how many of the others (or of us) would have the guts to go down those runs on that thing at those amazing speeds??

I don't think the jockey, Cavendish or David Haye are lacking in bravery.

Why would you take Christmas Day off? Back in his pomp Big Ted used to train on Christmas Day knowing that when push came to shove later in the season he knew he'd trained every day possible, but not all of his rivals had.
