Has anyone got any sailing books they recommend?

I've recently finished Ellen MacArthur and Pete Goss' books and looking for something else to move on to.

Preferably modern rather than the Aubrey-Maturin type.  Has anyone read Emma Richards book, if so whats that like?  Same for Tony Bullimore and Tracy Edwards really.

Many thanks

Hugh

If you like Maritime fiction, then can I suggest http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books-uk&field-author=Robinson%2C%20Patrick/202-7731714-6529404 - Patrick Robinson's  books.    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/009926904X/qid=1116840226/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_11_6/202-7731714-6529404 - Kilo Class is probably the best, but they are all worth a read.  The stories start with http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/009922562X/qid=1116840690/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_11_4/202-7731714-6529404 - Nimitz Class .

Tracy Edwards book is definatly worth reading, better than ellens in my opinion.

you said that you'd rather something more modern than jack aubrey but alexander kents books on richard bolitho are fantastic especially that earlier ones in bolitho's career.

I recommend the book about the 98 Sydney Hobart
race (the one with the really bad storm - six sailors
drowned). Not a happy book at all, but very gripping -
and definately makes you aware of how powerless
you can be when out sailing, and how important it is
to regard safety as your highest priority...

Can't remember it's name - but it should be easy to
find - worth a read.

Just had to mention it, but Frank Bethwhaites book is really good- High Performance sailing, gives lots of technical advice plus a lot of personal experience.

Fastnet, Force 10 is good, so too is 'Total Loss'    - Fatal storm, was also good.

Pete Goss- His account of the famous rescue and race was a  great read.

One book I was a little disappointed in was the one about the lady sailing across the Atlantic at 89  or so years of age. Certainly a change form the high powerd' racing in the southern ocean, type books.

To the Baltice and back with Bob, that was a nice easy read, plenty of  humour

Ellens book was very inspiring.

everyone should own a copy of High performance sailing by frank bethwaite. Its big and scary but fascinating if you get to grips with it. Just dont drop it on your foot.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out of that.

I just finished Tony Bullimore's book (it arrived on Thursday), I would like to reiterate the comments so far; it is a fantastic book.  It is written in a slightly unusual style, with different chapters focusing on individuals, and written in first person throughout.  A good read I would definitely recommend it if you like that sort of thing.
